Educational and academic translation, and specifically thesis translation, is a highly specialized undertaking, as shown by the Dutch to English academic thesis translation undertaken by Tomedes last week. Our client was an academic institution looking to translate a number of theses from leading past scholars in order to have English copies of them in the library as well as the original Dutch copies.
The documents covered both scientific and literary topics, so Tomedes used two separate translators to undertake the work, so that each translator’s skills and career experience were suited to the particular academic discipline that they were translating.
By taking such a flexible approach, Tomedes was able to ensure that each thesis was translated by a professional human translator with an understanding of the topic they were working on. We were also able to complete the job in half the time that it would have taken for a single translator to do it, yet at no additional cost to the client.
After professional proofreading had been undertaken as part of our stringent series of quality checks, Tomedes delivered the English versions of the theses to the client. She was extremely impressed with both the speed and quality of the Tomedes service and is already considering a second batch of theses to send to us for conversion from Dutch to English.
