The Polynesian sovereign state of Tonga includes 169 islands, 36 of which are inhabited. Tongan is spoken across the islands, as well as in neighbouring Niue, Samoa, Fiji and Vanuatu. Tongan speakers can also be found in the US, Australia and New Zealand.
Tongan is mainly a spoken language and so document translation requests into it are fairly rare. However, a recent Tomedes client required his marketing brochure to be available in Tongan and we were only too happy to help. With more than 5,000 professional human translators in the Tomedes network, we knew we had the perfect translator, even for a relatively rare translation request such as this one.
Our native Tongan translator was available to get to work right away, which was perfect as the client was keen to get his documents translated quickly. He also wanted them typeset, so our translator worked closely with our professional desktop publishing team to provide the client with a Tongan version of his marketing brochure that perfectly mirrored the English version.
The client was delighted with the end result. His Tongan marketing brochure looked just like his English one and the translation was flawless (it had to be to get past our quality assurance team, who check each and every one of the translations that we produce). He was also delighted by the low cost of the job. With Tongan translation being a (relatively) rarely required service, the client had expected to pay a small fortune for it and had been pleasantly surprised by the reasonable quote he had obtained via the Tomedes instant quote service.
From our side, we were delighted to be able to help this client pursue his business interests by reaching out to a new audience in Tonga!
